The gold of Piedmont.

The gold of Piedmont.

Truffles,

About ten types of truffles are collected in Italy, including the most precious Tuber magnatum Pico, a white truffle from Alba or Acqualagna that has always been among the top, both on the table and in terms of price. Every year in October and November there is a fair (Fiera del Tartufo) in the city that attracts many international visitors.

Follow the Tuber melanosporum Vittadini (black truffle from Norcia and Spoleto or the 'Prized Black') which today does not yet receive the appreciation it deserves in Italy, Tuber borchii Vittadini (Bianchetto or Marzuolo truffle), Tuber aestivum Vittadini (Summer truffle or Scorzone) with its derivative uncinatum Fischer (= Tuber uncinatum Chatin) has been brought back as its own species within the Italian regulations, the Tuber brumale Vittadini (Winter truffle) with its derivative moschatum de Ferry and the fragrant and tasty Tuber macrosporum Vittadini ('Black Smooth' ).

How and where to buy truffles
The easiest way to buy the truffle is without a doubt at shops selling regional products and local specialties. The most interesting source of supply is represented by the truffle fairs, events that attract thousands of international visitors every year.

Just a few minutes from Villa Fonte is the beautiful center of Alba.
The center of Alba is dominated by five 14th-century towers; some once belonged to the city's noble families. Other sights in the city include the 15th-century brick cathedral, the 13th-century San Domenico church and the recently[2] restored Palazzo Comunale.

From mid-October to the end of November you will find beautiful examples of truffles elegantly arranged in colorful stalls managed by trifolau (truffle hunters) themselves or by traders. These occasions are a real treat in the choice of unique truffles in size and weight.

The truffle market in Alba is also famous because it offers an interesting initiative: all sales specimens are checked by a panel of inspectors specialized in the sensory analysis of truffles and those that do not pass the selection are withdrawn from the market. The inspectors will remain available during market opening hours for inspections and any clarifications, all to ensure that consumer protection is guaranteed as much as possible.
